When it comes to spectacular scenery and top historical landmarks, North Yorkshire has it all. But it is not just the breathtaking views and places to visit which make it such a popular destination. Our county is well and truly on the map when it comes to outstanding fine dining. The food scene certainly won’t disappoint with local produce and ingredients at the heart of it all. To tantalise the taste buds, here are six of North Yorkshire’s best fine dining restaurants located within easy reach of the York House Leisure holiday parks.
The Black Swan, Oldstead
On the edge of the North York Moors, the Michelin-starred Black Swan was awarded The Best Restaurant in the UK 2018 by The Food and Travel Magazine and, in 2017, the Best Fine Dining Restaurant in the World by TripAdvisor. Head chef Tommy Banks is known for his incredible talent and flair. The focus is ‘traditional Yorkshire with a swirling mix of creativity and eccentricity.’ Offering a wonderfully diverse tasting menu, the combination of ingredients, tastes and flavours are sure to delight.
The Star Inn, Harome
The award-winning Star Inn at Harome just outside the market town of Helmsley is much-loved by foodies and locals. With a Michelin star, the quality of the dining experience with a ‘modern Yorkshire’ style of cooking and emphasis on regional and seasonal produce is truly outstanding. And did we mention, this historic 14th century thatched inn has a beautiful setting? It’s a treat not to be missed.
Hudsons at The Grand Hotel, York
Choose from a 5 or 9 course tasting menu and enjoy an unforgettable dining experience. Renowned for his culinary excellence, executive chef Craig Atchinson produces food with ‘impeccable attention to detail.’ The ever-changing menu features classic, innovative British dishes championing local Yorkshire produce.
Melton’s York
Renowned for producing refined food in a relaxed and informal setting, Melton’s restaurant serves delicious modern British dishes. It is featured in all the major good food guides and head chef Michael Hjort trained with the Roux brothers at La Gavroche. The menu includes a Yorkshire tasting menu with emphasis on seasonal ingredients. Sit back, relax and enjoy.
The Yorke Arms, Ramsgill-in-Nidderdale
Chef Frances Atkins has an outstanding culinary reputation and is one of only a handful of female Michelin-starred chefs in the UK. Menus feature the freshest local produce, and dishes are elegant, bursting with flavour and perfectly balanced. The setting in the Nidderdale Valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty in the Yorkshire Dales, is idyllic.
Horto, Rudding Park, near Harrogate
Based in Rudding Park’s luxury spa, this smart restaurant is all about contemporary fine dining using seasonal ingredients. Awarded 3 AA Rosettes in the Awards for Culinary Excellence 2017-18, Horto’s menu ‘is dictated by nature, the skill of the gardener and the flair of the chef.’ Head chef Murray Wilson, a former runner-up on Masterchef: The Professionals, lets the food do the talking, offering a choice menu and a chef’s menu which changes on a regular basis. Enjoy!
The Pheasant Hotel, Harome
This country hotel, based in a picturesque location in the village of Harome, boasts a food offering that ranks with North Yorkshire’s best fine dining restaurants. Open to both residents and non-residents throughout the day, the restaurant is overseen by chef/director Peter Neville, who has a reputation for creating dishes that ooze flavour and use the best seasonal produce from the local area. Little wonder, then, that it was named the Best Restaurant for 2017 in the prestigious White Rose Awards run by Welcome to Yorkshire.
