Sunday lunch near Thirsk – within 10 minutes’ drive

All of the following are within 10 minutes of Abbots Green, near Thirsk. Some are even walking distance away, giving you chance to build up your appetite!

The Lord Nelson, Thirsk (under 10 minutes, 3.5 miles)

Serving homemade food in a relaxed environment with a lovely beer garden, The Lord Nelson is popular with locals and visitors to the area. You are sure to get a warm welcome and honest good pub food. They serve a traditional Sunday lunch from 12-5pm with great Yorkshire puddings. If you’re visiting on a sunny day (almost every day in Yorkshire, of course!) make sure you take advantage of the lovely garden too.

Dog and Gun, Knayton nr Thirsk (about 10 minutes, 8 miles)

This family run village pub is all about traditional homemade pub food and the best quality local cask ales and fine wines. Sunday lunch won’t disappoint. Choose from roast pork loin with stuffing and crackling, tender roast beef, poached chicken with stuffing, or minted lamb shank all served with rich gravy, Yorkshire puds, mashed and roast potatoes, and seasonal veggies. 

The Carlton Inn, Husthwaite (Under 10 minutes, 5 miles)

For a mouth-watering Sunday lunch in a very pretty village, The Carlton Inn at Husthwaite is a quintessential village pub. You can expect a traditional Sunday roast with all the trimmings and lovely, crisp Yorkshire puddings, with the menu changing weekly. The food is freshly prepared using locally sourced ingredients and the warm, welcoming atmosphere adds to the enjoyable dining experience.

The Carpenters Arms, Felixkirk (Under 10 minutes, 5 miles)

Sit in the bar with its roaring log fires and wooden beams for informal dining or book the restaurant for a wonderful backdrop overlooking the spectacular Vale of Mowbray. The menu features the best of local produce and classic British dining. You can expect a delicious Sunday lunch – choose from 21 day aged grand reserve sirloin of beef or roast loin of pork from Smithy House Farm, Northallerton. The traditional bar is stocked with local beers, hand pulled ales and fine wines, or why not sample one of the innovative drinks from the extensive cocktail list?

Sunday lunch near Thirsk – 15-30 minutes’ drive

All of the following are within a half-hour drive of Abbots Green, near Thirsk.

Dog and Gun, Carlton Miniott (under 15 minutes, 6 miles through Thirsk)

Great for families, the Dog and Gun is all about fresh, quality homemade food with the extra bonus of being good value for money. The Sunday lunches are popular and you can expect to sample traditional favourites. The pub is proud of its community links and works with local suppliers to provide a tasty and seasonal Yorkshire menu.

Blue Bell, Arkendale (20 minutes, 18 miles)

A traditional village pub with an excellent restaurant to boot. Serving up seasonal Yorkshire food, the varied menu and special boards means there’s lot of choice for everyone. Delicious, traditional roasts are served on Sundays from 12-8pm. From pub classics to more elaborate dishes, diners are sure to enjoy the menu not to mention the fantastic choice of real ales and fine wines.

Our very own on-site café serves fantastic Sunday roasts which are always popular with our luxury lodge guests as well as with visitors from the local area.

Prepared using locally-sourced ingredients, the Sunday roasts are available by advance booking only, priced at £12.95 for a main course and pudding. A vegetarian option is also available on request when booking.
