We are delighted to announce that the Old Barn Coffee Shop is a finalist in the Herriot Awards 2019, after being named on the shortlist of the Tearoom of the Year, Customer Service Team of the Year and Baked Product of the Year categories.
The café is located at the entrance to York House Holiday Park, which is our sister site in Balk, near Thirsk. It’s very popular with Abbots Green residents, as well as customers from the nearby villages and passing cyclists, dog walkers and other visitors to the area.
The coffee shop team do such a great job giving our residents a warm welcome and offering a selection of delicious freshly-made food and drink. Each one of them is friendly, motivated and full of enthusiasm, and thoroughly deserving of their nomination for the Customer Service Team of the Year award!
The Old Barn’s menu focuses on quality over quantity, using uses locally-sourced ingredients wherever possible. Fruit and vegetables, for example, come from Carl’s Fruit and Veg at Mount Pleasant Farm just down the road. It also caters to the growing demand for gluten and dairy free products.
The cakes are all made by the coffee shop’s supervisor Claire Batson, and they are certainly a hit with customers! Now they have been recognised by the Herriot Awards judges who have shortlisted the Old Barn’s best-selling lemon drizzle cake and lemon and blueberry scones in the Baked Product category.
The Flavours of Herriot Country Awards are one of the most highly recognised and respected food and drink awards in Yorkshire and celebrate the best in food and drink throughout ‘Herriot Country’ – an area stretching across Hambleton and Richmondshire.
