Here at Abbots Green, we love the atmosphere that builds around Bonfire Night, and Yorkshire’s big skies provide the perfect backdrop to watch spectacular firework displays unfold. Family friendly fun, warming food and hot drinks, sparklers, toasting marshmallows and much more await. So, don’t forget your woolly hat and remember to be safe too. Here are just a few of the highlights taking place in Yorkshire this Bonfire Night.

Saturday, November 3rd


A firework extravaganza set to music followed by a disco is sure to be lots of fun this year at Helmsley Recreation Ground. Check out the food and refreshment stalls for some warming bonfire food and the lucky winner of the raffle gets to set off the display! It gets underway at 7pm, tickets £5 on the gate, under 5s free. Helmsley Recreation Ground, Baxtons Sprunt, YO62 5HT.

Thirsk Racecourse

Remember to wrap up warmly for another popular bonfire spectacle organised by Thirsk Rotary Club and taking place at Thirsk Racecourse. Gates open at 5.30pm with the fireworks starting at 7pm. £10 (family), £5 (adults), £3 (under-16s), under 5s free.

Swinton Bivouac

For something a bit different, gather to watch the bonfire at Swinton Bivouac. There will be no loud bangs or fireworks but plenty of family fun. Hot dogs and burgers, toasting marshmallows and sparklers will be in abundance, along with hot drinks and other beverages at the Bistro Café, and there will be plenty of sweet treats too. Visit the café in the day time to help make the guy for the bonfire. Entry is free but a Starry Horizons event, which runs alongside the Bonfire Night spectacular, needs to be booked in advance.

Lightwater Valley

For fabulous fireworks choreographed to music and set over the picturesque Swan Lake, visit Lightwater Valley near Ripon. Once darkness falls, the 10-minute firework show will unfold. The display is included in the usual admission price to provide a perfect ending to a fun family day out.

Sunday, November 4th

Stockeld Park

This year, Stockeld Park near Wetherby is hosting a new longer 30-minute show plus an exciting display of fireworks, entertainers, a live DJ and dare-devil fire breathers. Pre-show entertainment starts from 4.30pm. £7 per person, £25 per family of 4, Free to Stockeld Annual Gold Members.

Monday, November 5th


Enjoy the brilliant fireworks and bonfire plus the food stalls serving up hot dogs and warming soup, and other delicious treats. It is a fun night for all the community, don’t forget your wellies! The Shawl, Leyburn. Bonfire lit 6.30pm, Fireworks 7pm.
