Here at Abbots Green, we love the atmosphere that builds around Bonfire Night, and Yorkshire’s big skies provide the perfect backdrop to watch spectacular firework displays unfold. Family friendly fun, warming food and hot drinks, sparklers, toasting marshmallows and much more await. So, don’t forget your woolly hat and remember to be safe too. Here are just a few of the highlights taking place in Yorkshire this Bonfire Night.

Saturday, November 2nd

Helmsley

A firework extravaganza set to music followed by a disco is sure to be lots of fun this year at Helmsley Recreation Ground. Check out the food and refreshment stalls for some warming bonfire fare, and the lucky winner of the raffle gets to set off the display! It gets underway at 7pm (gates open 6pm), tickets £5 on the gate, under 5s free. Helmsley Recreation Ground, Baxtons Sprunt, YO62 5HT.

Thirsk Racecourse

Remember to wrap up warmly for another popular bonfire and fireworks spectacle organised by Thirsk Rotary Club and taking place at Thirsk Racecourse. Gates open at 5pm with the fireworks starting at 7pm. £10 (family), £5 (adults), £5 (11 years and over), under 11s free. Discounted tickets are available in advance before lunchtime on November 2 from Thirsk Tourist Information Centre, Johnsons Butchers and Thirsk Garden Centre.

Bedale

Wensleydale Railway is once again running the annual Bonfire Express, bringing people from across The Yorkshire Dales to the Bedale Bonfire celebrations! The train leaves Redmire at 5.05pm and Leyburn at 5.26pm, arriving into Bedale at 6pm, where it is a 10 min walk to the bonfire. The return service departs Bedale at 8.20pm. A bar on board will sell a variety of hot, cold and alcoholic drinks. Tickets are £7 (adults), £3 (children 5-15), under 5s free. Call 01677 425 805 to book.

Swinton Bivouac

For something a bit different, gather to watch the bonfire at Swinton Bivouac. There will be no loud bangs or fireworks but plenty of family fun. Hot dogs and burgers, toasting marshmallows and sparklers will be in abundance, along with hot drinks and other beverages at the Bistro Café, and there will be plenty of sweet treats too. Visitors are invited to make their own Guy Fawkes and bring it along on the evening for the chance to win a prize. The event runs from 6pm to 8pm, with the bonfire lit at 6.30pm. Entry is free.

Saturday, November 2nd and Sunday, November 3rd

Lightwater Valley

For fabulous fireworks choreographed to music and set over the picturesque Swan Lake, visit Lightwater Valley near Ripon. Once darkness falls, the 10-minute firework show will unfold. The display is included in the usual admission price and will take place from 5pm to provide a perfect ending to a fun family day out.

Sunday, November 3rd

Stockeld Park

Stockeld Park near Wetherby is hosting a truly spectacular display of fireworks with more than three tonnes of explosives and more than 300 aerial shells set to be fired. To add to the extravaganza will be daredevil fire eaters, stalls and a professional live band. Fireworks start at 5.30pm. £7 per person, £25 per family of 4, Free with Forest & Maze tickets and for Stockeld Annual Gold Members.

Tuesday, November 5th

Leyburn

Enjoy the brilliant fireworks and bonfire plus the food stalls serving up hot dogs and warming soup, and other delicious treats. It is a fun night for all the community, don’t forget your wellies! The Shawl, Leyburn. Bonfire lit 6.30pm, Fireworks 7pm.
